About HPC

High Performance computing (HPC)/Supercomputing plays an important role in both scientific advancement and economic competitiveness of a nation because it is a powerful tool for accelerating a nation’s Research & Development programs by increasing the productivity of it’s scientists & researchers. It enables scientists & researchers to produce scientific & industrial solutions faster, less expensively and with higher quality than traditional theory and experimentation alone. It is extensively used in designing vehicles and aircrafts, designing massive structures like high-rise buildings & bridges, discovery of new life saving drugs, discovery and extraction of new energy sources like Oil & Natural Gas, producing the weather forecasts for daily activities and severe weather conditions like tsunami & cyclones, and many more. HPC, therefore, is seen as powerful tool for a nation to compete with other nations.

About C-DAC

C-DAC was setup by Government of India in 1988 to built Supercomputing capability for the nation. Today, C-DAC has established itself as a premier Research & Development body of Govt. of India working in HPC area and helping HPC user community of the nation in solving their research problems on HPC systems. C-DAC has recently commissioned PARAM Yuva system, which is the latest in PARAM series of Supercomputers developed by C-DAC. To facilitate scientists and researchers of the nation to use PARAM Yuva more effectively for solving their grand challenge problems, C-DAC is conducting a two days program on “Next Generation Application Challenges on PARAM Yuva” during February 25-26, 2011 at Pune.

Workshop Objectives

The aim of this workshop is to introduce PARAM Yuva to its potential users and to discuss the challenges and needs of their applications. The workshop will have talks delivered by existing and future users of PARAM Yuva on their experiences and requirements of using such a system. These speakers from premier academic institutions and R & D labs of the nation are national experts in their respective domains. They will be enlightening the participants by sharing their rich experiences of using systems like PARAM Yuva for solving problems in their domains.

The speakers will be from a wide range of science and engineering domains including:

  • Computational Biology
  • Computational Atmospheric Sciences
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Structural Mechanics
  • Earthquake Engineering
  • Seismic Processing
  • Computational Chemistry
  • Material Sciences
  • And many more.

The workshop will also introduce to the participants the tools & technologies used in Parallel Processing Systems for building Parallel Applications (like MPI, Open MP, etc.).

The workshop will, therefore, promote exchange of information, knowledge and know how towards forging a consolidated efforts for building and using better HPC systems, solutions, and applications by bringing together scientists & researchers from academia, industry and R & D labs of the nation.

Registration

The number of seats for the Programme is limited and the registration will be based on a first come first serve basis.Last date of registration February 20, 2011.
