A. Because of
communication problems the terminal may display junk.
Check the Serial cable, Communication Parameters of
the terminal, and terminal related parameters on Server.
Q.
For some software the GIST Terminal is unable to generate
script.
A. Change the
GIST Terminal 8 bit mode to 7 bit mode.
Q.
No login prompt on the terminal.
A. Check whether
that particular serial port is enabled or disabled.
If it is disabled, enable it. Check the Communication
parameters of terminal and related settings on the server.
Check the serial cable. In case of a new installation
swap the TX and RX 2 & 3 wires in serial port cable.
By using the
stty command the terminal parameters can be modified
temporarily. To make permanent changes, modify the terminal
definition files.
stty -a
It will display the settings of the terminal.
stty –parenb
Disable the parity
stty cs8
Set the character size to 8
Q.
The printer prints junk.
A. Select the
proper printer driver. Check the printer cable.
Printing: For
Multilingual printouts, printer should be connected
to GIST Terminal. Connect the printer to Parallel port
of Gist terminal.
Q.
The GIST Terminal is working fine with English but displays
Hindi as junk.
Ans Check the
Communication parameters in terminals. Set the character
size to 8. For the following commands:
stty -istrip
Disables the istrip
Q.
The printer prints junk after printing a few pages fine
well.
A. Check the
Printer settings. Hand shake signals to be set properly.
For software handshake set the IXON & IXOFF signals.
Set the RTS & DTS for Hardware handshake. If those parameters
are not set properly, the terminal may print the data
properly for some pages. When the buffer is full it
sends a handshake signal to host, but the system may
not be able to detect the signal, and continues to send
the data. Due to this, some data may get corrupted,
whereby the printer may skip some data and print junk.
Q.
The GIST Terminal function keys are not working.
A. Set the TERM
settings in terminal as well as user environment.
Q.
The Function keys are working fine with English terminals.
But with the same application the GIST terminal function
keys are not working.
A. Check the
TERM settings. Reconfigure the keyboard function keys.
It may happen that keyboard configuration is configured
for an English terminal. In this case it may not work
with GIST terminals. Reconfigure the keyboard.
Q.
ALP does not working with GIST Terminal. ALP switches
to Telnetmode.
A. ALP does not
work with GIST Terminal ALP swetches to TELNET-MODE.
ALP requires Character Size (CS8). LTS does character
processing. While processing and it’s assume 8th bit
as a special character and strip 8th bit. This is resulting
ALP switches to Telnet mode and it will hang. To avoid
this problem, use the RLOGIN command from LTS prompt.
Enable the RAW mode in TELNET. Some of the older versions
of Telnet commands may not support RAW mode. In this
case upgrade the LTS S/W. Software.
Printing: For
Multilingual printouts, printer should be configured
with the GIST Terminal. Connect the printer to Parallel
port of the Gist terminal.
Q.
Terminal cannot be used while printing.
A. There are
2 ways of printing.
1.Front ground
printing
2. Background
printing.
In the front
ground printing terminal can not be used while printing.
In the background the printing terminal can be used
as well as printer at same time. To configure Background,
connect one serial cable from Aux. Port of the terminal
to Unix server. Configure the Aux. Port as a print device.
Q.
