 LEAP OFFICE 2000

Frequently asked questions for this product are:

Q. While installation LEAP Office 2000, a message showing 'Invalid Serial Number Detected' is flashed.

A. This happens usually because of an invalid entry of serial number. Usually, the confusion between the character ‘O’ and digit ‘0’ is the cause. Care should be taken to see that the serial number should be entered in all caps with no spaces in between.

Q. After installation, 'Indian Language fonts' are already in use by other application of Windows. You will have to close those applications and restart Windows. OR 'LEAP Office already installed. Kindly remove the existing version and then install' appears on the screen.

A. If you observe such a message, restart WINDOWS as prompted and try installation once more. If there is any other Indian Language software, which is in the program startup group, then you will have to remove it from the startup group and then install.

Sometimes, it is observed that the same message appears due to a conflict with some other vendors' TT Fonts and even C-DAC TT Fonts (if already existing in the machine). These TT Fonts must be removed. Restart and install again.

Q. After successful installation, all the Languages are not available in the menu upon right click.

A. This usually happens because there are a large number of fonts installed on your machine. The Windows registry allows only 64-KB file for registration of fonts. In this case, remove the existing version of LEAP Office and try installing with 'Typical option'. This will install the minimum fonts on your machine.

Q. It is not possible to take a 'Quick Tour' on Win3.X

A. 'Quick Tour' requires Lotus ScreenCam and is designed only for Windows 95 and above.

Q. While using the Phonetic Keyboard it is not possible to form some conjucts and vowels.

A. Phonetic English keyboard involves typing with some rules. The mapping table is giving in 'Help Menu', Typing Tutorials, and Phonetic English. Here if you learn the table properly there would be no problem typing with Phonetic English Keyboard.

Q. After highlighting a text and deleting it, the cursor sometimes disappears.

A.* You need to have a MAPI compliant eMail client (such as MS Outlook, Eudora, etc.,) installed on your computer. Your computer needs to be connected to a modem.

  • Create your document (English or multilingual)
  • Select the 'Send Mail' item in the File menu.

A 'Send Mail' dialog box having the following options will be displayed:

a. LP2 file - This option will send your iLEAP document as an attachment in the mail. To be able to read your document, the recipient needs to have iLEAP or iLEAP Office installed on his/her computer. iLEAP Lite (Trial Copy) is available on the Internet for a free download.

b. RTF document - If sent as a RTF document, fonts used in the document need to be installed on the recipient's computer. Fonts are also available on the Internet for a free download . Another facility provided by iLEAP is to send the font installation exe along with the email itself. You can do this the first time for every recipient.

c. HTML document - This too needs fonts on the recipient's PC as explained above.

d. ISCII document - This is for recipients who have a editor, wordprocessor or GIST card which can recognize the ISCII format.

e. BMP document (Monochrome). - Sends a monochrome Windows bitmap as an attachment. This is preferred for recipients who neither have fonts nor iLEAP/ LEAP Office. They can view the mail and cannot edit it. This generally has a smaller size than the JPEG attachment. The first visible page contents are sent.

f. JPEG document (Monochrome) - Similar to the Windows BMP but is also supported on non-Windows platforms.

*Tip: A BMP document is smaller in size than a JPEG document.

  • Click on the Send button. The eMail client window will be opened. (This window and other subsequent windows or dialogs presented will be dependent on the eMail client software that has been installed on your computer). Your document will be sent as an attachment. (The format is dependent on the option that you select in Step c above). Enter the eMail address that you would like to send to and other necessary options. Click OK.

Q. Is LEAP Office available for network?

A. Yes, LEAP Office has a network version. This network version is available for both NT and Novell NetWare. The Network version is available for unlimited users per license.

Q. Though LEAP Office is installed in the network server and the shortcut on the nodes exists, Indian languages are not available on the local nodes.

A. Though LEAP Office is installed in the network, it is mandatory to have the Indian Language fonts installed on the local machine where the software is going to be used. So after installation of LEAP Office as a server copy, you can run the software from the server but you will need to install the fonts on the local machine (this can be done by running netsetup.exe from the server).

Q. I experience some problems with text flow. Every page, at times even a paragraph, become an independent text block. How do I join them? If, I add more text to a block anywhere midway, will the remaining blocks adjust their location automatically?

A. In both the software, once the cursor appears on the page a block starts and will continue till you shift + click on the page else where. These two are independent blocks. If you wish to edit the earlier block, you will need to move the lower block else where to avoid overlapping. The movement of the block will be possible only in the block mode ( 'Edit' menu 'Frame').

Q. To make columns all over the book, what do I do?

A. In the 'Edit Menu' click 'Goto' and 'Master pages'. Type some text on the left as well as right master page. Go to 'Layout' and 'Make Column' option. Give an appropriate number. Q. How do I use LEAP Office for Windows applications?

A. In the Start Menu, Programs, LEAP Office there exists a utility called as ISM-Soft. Click this utility, ISM keyboard manager will appear on the screen. Select the requisite script. If a bilingual font option is chosen then for an application of Windows like MS-Word you will need to select the DVBTT-* font. Select the proper toggle switch and minimize it. Once the application of Windows is started, the corresponding toggle switch is to be switched on. Now start working.

Q. In LEAP Office, if we use ISM soft for MS-Word, the characters do not appear properly, although the settings are done properly.

A. Switch off all the options in Tools, AutoCorrect.

Q. In ISM-Soft for LEAP Office, once the toggle key is switched ON in MS-Word, print preview is observed.

Q. Can I use Bilingual fonts in LEAP Office?

A. You do not need to use bilingual fonts for the word processor part of LEAP Office. However in the interface part, where you are using another application, the Bilingual fonts are available to allow you to use both English and Indian language simultaneously. In order to use the option of bilingual fonts, you need to select the option of bilingual fonts from the ISM Soft selection box. In this case, the font selected has to be a bilingual font e.g. DVB TTSurekh. In this case, DVB stands for Devnagari Bilingual, TT is TrueType and Surekh is the name of the font. The same nomenclature is used for all the fonts developed by GIST Group.
