Video Search

Today loads of information is stored in the form of video. The competition in the broadcast media is fierce. So to retrieve a particular video sequence or scene from the large video bank and that too in short time has become the need of the hour. C-DAC is working towards developing a technology that will help search video content by titles, audio track, interpretation of activities in the scene, recognizing cast, dialogue etc.

Video search technology uses content analysis to automatically extract the information describing the recorded material. Extracting information can be as simple as detecting video scene changes and selecting the first frame of the scene as a representative frame. A more complex process involves extracting text from film titles, analyzing the audio track, making a semantic interpretation of activities, recognizing cast and assigning meaning to particular segments of the video. The search can be based on several inputs such as a scene, image, text, dialogue or a video clip etc. The search system will be able to give the output information as a time code or generate the descriptors to build a MPEG-7 stream so that, the desired frame can be accessed directly.

Multilingual MHP (Multimedia Home Platform)

Multimedia Home Platform (DVB-MHP) is an open middleware system standard designed by the DVB consortium for interactive digital television. MHP enables the reception and execution of interactive, Java-based applications on a TV-set. Interactive TV applications can be delivered over the broadcast channel, together with audio and video streams. These applications can be Information services in Indian Languages, Indian Language gaming, interactive voting, e-mail, SMS in Indian Language or shopping. Each interactive application requires an additional return channel.

Watermarking - Solution for MPEG 2 Domain

With so much of content, another bigger challenge faced by Video Content Producers lies in protecting the content. The contents can be altered and copied very easily using various tools available in the market. C-DAC is working towards providing a solution that will enable video content owners to protect their video content and authenticate them at the time of copyright disputes without any kind of distortion.

The watermarking solution is aimed for MPEG 2 Video files used for DVD's and Broadcast Streams. The embedder will allow insertion of identifying data directly into the video streams. Content Owners can directly embed their product logo or some identifying image into the video without any kind of distortion. The technology demonstrator prototype of MPEG Watermarking model has been developed and further enhancements are in progress.
