C-DAC Pune
   PREMIER INSTITUTES PROJECT

The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) is engaged in the design and development of High Performance Computing Systems. The 100 Gflops (peak) Parallel Computer PARAM 10000 is installed at the National PARAM Supercomputing Facility (NPSF) at Pune and is being used for multi-disciplinary applications.

Under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology and endorsement by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, a 6.4 Gflops (peak) PARAM 10000 computing system is installed at twelve premier Indian Institutes.

The processing nodes of the PARAM 10000 system at these premier institutes are UltraSPARC II. Each premier institute has identified the projects in the broad areas of Science and Technology to be carried by faculty and research students of the Institutes.

C-DAC has also sponsored projects to all the premier institutes, depending on their domain expertise. A Review Workshop was held at C-DAC, Pune, on July 5-6, 2001, which was attended by all the Institutes. An expert's team and members of the Ministry of Information Technology reviewed the projects.

C-DAC closely monitors the operations of PARAM 10000 at these Institutes and the progress in the projects. C-DAC also interacts with the contact persons at the premier institutes and explores the possibilities of having further interactions.
