Large scale scientific
and engineering applications in real life have given
impetus to the development of high performance computing
platforms via parallel processing. Over the last two
decades or so, this has been demonstrated in the form
of solutions being provided to complex situations like
Weather Forecasting, Seismic Data Processing, Oil Exploration,
Fluid Mechanics/Heat Transfer Simulations, Structural
Mechanics, Materials and Molecular Design. One of the
prime objectives of the Scientific and Engineering Computing
Group (SECG) at C-DAC is to carryout Research and Development
in multi-disciplinary applications. It also addresses
the optimization and fine-tuning of the codes on PARAM
series of machines. The activities of SECG are classified
in the following broad categories:
An important aspect
of this group's activities is the collaborations with
academic, research and industrial organizations in India
as well as abroad. In the process of such interactions,
a number of algorithms and computing techniques have
been developed. Solutions of partial differential equations
through finite element and finite difference methods,
optimization through classical as well as evolution
based techniques are few among them. Apart from such
developments, a number of third party codes and softwares
have also been ported on PARAM.
These on-going activities
have proved that High Performance Computing is quite
fruitful and mutually beneficial.
